Brands and Bands: Advice on picking the perfect partnership

2016-10-13T10:04:35+00:00 April 1st, 2014|Development: Brands, Artists, Products, Music, News|

The Music Industry is notoriously unsupportive of artists. To qualify that statement let me also say that it's not entirely the Industry's fault, which doesn't make it the artist's fault... As far as we can tell, it's just the way in which the Industry has evolved with the social trends that have occurred. But let's just say it and be honest about it, because once this is out in the open, we have an opportunity to change, grow, develop, evolve further... the industry suffers from its mistake of not putting the artist first. This is the way the industry is, and it's why the Industry [...]

The new Beats Music Store: Should I join?

2016-10-13T10:04:35+00:00 February 13th, 2014|Music, News|

MOG.comis a find, play, share music solution thats been around since 2006, and if youve never heard of it, youre in luck Beats by Dre just launched Beats Music which is the replacement entity for Mog. Its a mobile music stream venture by Dr. Dre and Interscope Records, Jimmy Iovine. It pushes, or at least attempts to push at the human element of the music listener, making it personal, and attractive. Coming in a little late in the game, its no major reinvention of the wheel (read a full review at Brighthand). If youre aTunecoreuser you may have seen this change appear in your dashboard [...]

Pop Culture Predicting the Oscars

2016-10-13T10:04:35+00:00 February 1st, 2014|News, Video and Film|

The Wolf of Wall Street is gaining interest from social media audiences that measure to breakthrough heights. Boasting a staggering 967,035 followers across Twitter and Facebook, they've got a 400k lead on their closest competitor. It will be interesting to see how the film fairs against it's competitors in the race for Best Picture, "Gravity" (which holds the close second in social media traffic), and "Philomena" which doesn't even rank in social graces as it doesn't have any official accounts associated with its title. The Wolf might only be howling at purchase intent not entirely indicative of Oscar success. Only last year, the winner for [...]

Poly: A Nashville Commodity

2016-10-13T10:04:35+00:00 December 10th, 2013|Music, News|

Poly is a local band in Nashville TN. After getting to know them through thePop Up series(theyll be playing Nashville very soon), not only am I a fan and an advocate, but Im interested in where their melodies, influence, and pursuation have come from. Three seemingly different schools of thought all come together to make a sound that is in some way entrancing, in some ways a little more friendly and familiar, but in all ways pursuasive and inviting. There are a handful of songs you can find by them onBandcampand onYouTube You can find them onTwitterand onFacebook. However you choose to find them you [...]

Save the Roxy!

2016-10-13T10:04:35+00:00 November 1st, 2013|Events, News, Video and Film|

Today in East Nashville theres an event happening And not just any event. I found out about the Roxy Theatre a few months back looking for older buildings on the East side that might be perfect locations for a new venue, recording space just something a little different. In talking with a rep at the local non-profit group,Neighborhoods Resource Center, I found out about this event today, and the plans to rejuvenate this amazing piece of Nashville History. This group has come together with a host of great sponsors to bring community back into this neighborhood, the way it was 80 years ago, for one night [...]

30 Americans at The Frist

2016-10-13T10:04:35+00:00 October 20th, 2013|Events, Fine Art, News|

Going to the recent show at the Frist this last weekend was a surprise of beauty, a shock of culture, and altogether one of the best shows Ive seen there. Nashville loves this venue for its far-reaching appreciation of all arts, and I cant say enough good things about it myself. Its interesting though that this show in particular did not have the same marketing and advertising as shows Ive seen there in the past. In fact, it wasnt until I looked at the calendar for the exhibits at the Frist that I even knew that this was the show: 30 Americans. Gorgeous layout, well [...]

Two Ears and One Mouth, There’s a Reason.

2016-10-13T10:04:35+00:00 August 20th, 2013|Music, News|

A mentor of mine in LA always told me, "We have two ears and one mouth for a reason... We should listen twice as much as we speak." This wisdom has stuck with me since he told me, and I've had the opportunity to meet his mentor,Quincy Jones, who ultimately was the first to use the phrase. When I met Quincy, he was speaking forGuitar Center Sessionsin theGuitar Center in Hollywood, and used the very phrase in the interview. So why's it so important that Quincy's been using it and telling people for many decades, and now it sticks with me? Quincy's reason for using [...]
